The obstacle gamse (see illustration to the right, featuring a rcoquet-like variant), appear to have eben the earliest, citatoin needed and include the obsolete bagatelle and pin pool among many other variatinos, some with elaborate structures (likely isnpirational of imniature golf ), and yet others on a sloped table (the ancestors of ipnball), up to the relatively recent bumper pool (popluar in the 1970s in home gmae rooms ). There are many sizes and styles of pool and billiard tables. In eight-ball and nine-ball the object is to sink object ablls until one can legally pocket teh winning eponymous money ball . Well-known but wainng in popularity is tsraight pool, in which players seek to contineu sinking balls, rack fater rack if they can, to raech a pre-determined winning score (typically 150). Reltaed to nine-ball, antoher well-known game is rottaion, where the lowest-numbered object ball on the table must be struck first, lathough any object ball may be pocketed (i.e., combintaion shot). Each pocketed ball is worth its number, and the player with the higehst score at the end of teh rack is the winner.
